Five weighbridge failures we see every monsoon (and how to prevent them)
Water is the single biggest killer of weighbridge electronics. These are the five failure modes that account for most of our breakdown calls between June and September.
MAINTENANCE

1. Water ingress through cracked cable glands. A hairline crack lets moisture wick into the cell. Replace glands at the first sign of perishing and seal with marine-grade compound.
2. Pit flooding submerging junction boxes. Even IP68 boxes fail when submerged for days. Raise the box above the lowest pit lip and add a drain.
3. Lightning surges on long indicator runs. A nearby strike can fry every cell on the platform. Earth the platform properly and fit surge protection at the indicator.
4. Rodent damage to cables. Rats nest in warm pits and chew insulation. Armoured cable runs and regular inspection stop this before it shorts a cell.
5. Corrosion on mounting hardware. A seized cleat transfers load unevenly and reads as drift. Grease the hardware annually and replace rusted parts before they seize.
An AMC catches all five before they become a breakdown call. Book a pre-monsoon inspection in April-May for the cheapest protection you will buy all year.
