Pitless vs pit-type weighbridges: choosing the right platform
Both designs work. The right choice depends on your drainage, traffic flow and available civil depth — not on which one is newer
INSTALLATION

Pit-type weighbridges sit flush with the ground, so trucks roll on without ramps. That saves time at high-volume gates, but the pit must drain — a flooded pit in monsoon will corrode load cells and trap debris faster than any other failure mode we see.
Pitless weighbridges sit above ground on approach ramps. They cost less to install, drain naturally, and make load cell access trivial. The trade-off is ramp length: you need enough run-up for a loaded truck to climb comfortably, which eats yard space. Another draw back for pitless weighbridge is that it is easier for fraudsters to tamper with the analogue loadcells and manipulate the weight of any vehicle.
Our rule of thumb: high-throughput plants with good drainage and a civil budget go pit-type. Everyone else — especially sites with a high water table — goes pitless. We fabricate both, so the choice is driven by your site, not our manpower/ inventory. However, our recommendation as a public weighbridge operator will lean towards a pit-type weighbridge as it gives better accuracy compared to pitless weighbridge because movement of vehicles is much higher.
